Strade Bianche means "white road" in Italian. It comes from the color of dry limestone rubble, which emits fine white dust that is along the track.

We put together this self guided Bike Tour  selecting the more appropriate unpaved sections , choosing the more suitable unpaved part from the race and Eroica itinerary. The permanent route of L'Eroica is a unique experience that allows you to remember the adventure of L'Eroica for a lifetime. The traditional L'Eroica route starts in the village of Gaiole in Chianti and covers some of the most beautiful roads in the areas of Chianti and Siena, winding between historic vineyards and leading to the cypress-lined Castello di Brolio and Corte Pavone entrances.

Day 1

Meeting Point in Pienza , welcome and ride a bike , the purest Renaissance in the world. Pienza is the "perfect town", an outstanding representative of Renaissance town planning. If you don’t know much about the beautiful architecture, you can stroll through its cobblestone streets. The first short bike ride to the spa town of Bagno Vignoni and the chapel of Madonna di Vita Leta, which dates back to Roman times 25 kilometers / 15 miles away 12 km of asphalt and 13 km of gravel-easy to medium

Day 2

Your tour will depart from Pienza. Spring brings red poppies to the vibrant Tuscan green wheat fields, and the blooming flowers are more splendid than the mountains of the UNESCO-listed Val d'Orcia. When we walk through a corridor surrounded by cypress trees, the scene may look familiar from movies such as "Gladiator" and "The English Patient". Follow the gravel roads through timeless Tuscany and enjoy a cup of espresso at La Foce, overlooking the road we just conquered. At lunch time, you will come to Montepulciano, a gem of southern Tuscany, full of Renaissance palaces. After relaxing for a while, stop in the typical Tuscan hill town of Monticchiello and return to Pienza. 51 km 31.5 miles away 17 kilometers of asphalt and 34 kilometers of gravel-medium difficulty

Day 3

To get to Montalcino from Pienza, we chose Lucignano d'Asso and Pieve a Salti from Eroica race sections roads . You leave Pienza, then drive on a 6 km paved road, follow the white road towards Cosona, and arrive at the small village of Lucignano -in the small shop Emporio Espresso- coffee is a must. After reaching the paved road, you only need to ride for one kilometer, and then start another Eroica race  section gravelling to Pieve a Salti ,  such a beautiful landscape with 9 kilometers up and down in the countryside !! Arrive at Buonconvento at lunch time.

Day 4

L'Eroica (meaning "The Heroic") is a celebration of the golden age of bicycles. The event is held in October every year, and thousands of strong cyclists will go back in time, travelling through the original bicycles of the past and driving on these gravel roads. Heavy steel bicycles with down-tube gear levers and impossible transmission ratios .

Today, we will participate in one of the most beautiful gravel areas in L'Eroica to experience the heroic origin of cycling. From the center of Brunello di Montalcino, the most famous wine region in Tuscany, ride to the top Passo del Lume Spento. Actually started the Castiglion del Bosco gravel section. Castiglion del bosco is the largest Brunello winery and farm owned by the famous Italian fashion designer Ferragamo. After arriving in Bibbiano, another area called la Piana, after 30 kilometers then cafés and visiting Murlo!

Soon, you will face another legendary Eroica part of Radi, with some steep and short up and down movements. In Ville di Corsano, you should enjoy a light meal. From here, you can reach the last 12 kilometers of the secondary paved road to Siena. Distance 56 km / 35 miles 32 kilometers of asphalt and 24 kilometers of gravel-medium challenge

Day 5

Today's destination is the town where Eroica started. After enjoying a delicious breakfast, head to the magical Chianti. You will leave from Pieve a Bozzone and Vico d'Arbia through a gravel road crossing the wheat fields, and then enter the vineyards of this famous wine region area . After 15 kilometers arrive at Pianella. You'll ride through the classic Chianti vineyards, several castles and ancient hilltop hamlets ! After cycling 38 kilometers (mainly gravel), lunch time in Radda in Chianti.

Relax.. You still miss only 8 kilometers along Eroica itineray to Gaiole in Chianti. The final stage of gravel: San Donato and Vertine in Perano are great and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. 46 kilometers/28.5 miles away 16 kilometers of asphalt and 30 kilometers of gravel-medium challenge

Day 6

Today you'll exploring all the villages and small villages in Chianti Senese. Start with the "Spanish Castle" in Gaiole and reach Castello di Brolio after 10 kilometers. Here, coffee in the bar in front of the brewery is a must: all cyclists, locals and tourists want to get there. After you can enter the gravel area of ​​Eroica, very short, then you will drive on a very unforgettable scenic trail until Castelnuvo Berardenga.

It is worth a visit, if you have lunch there, there are many options to choose from. Back in the saddle, encounter other small gems: San Gusmé and Sesta villas. Return to Brolio: To return to Gaiole, you have 2 options. A downhill and flat road is very easy, or uphill to Castagnoli and downhill to Castello di Meleto. Tonight, you should enjoy a Michelin star dinner: at the il Pievano hotel. 54 kilometers/33.5 miles away 44 kilometers of asphalt, 10 kilometers of gravel-medium difficulty
